Triage: Dr. James Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma

Poster

Dr. James Orbinski’s professional career and personal insights have made him into a luminary humanitarian icon, and it is with great honor and pleasure that D4D presents this unique and intimate opportunity to meet the man behind the legacy. Dr. Orbinski practices clinical medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, and he is also an Associate Professor of Medicine and Political Science at the University of Toronto as well as a fellow at the Munk Centre for International Studies. In addition, he is a past International President of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders), and co-founder of Dignitas International, an organization committed to community-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in the developing world. From 2001-2004, Dr. Orbinski also co-chaired MSF’s Neglected Diseases Working Group, which created and launched the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative.

Dr. Orbinski has served as a field doctor during the famine in Somalia and the Rwandan genocide, and has also spent time in Afghanistan, Peru and Zaire amongst other places. In 1999, Dr. Orbinski accepted the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to MSF for its pioneering approach to medical humanitarianism and its commitment to witnessing.

All proceeds will be donated to a network of hospitals across Somalia/Somaliland.
